Taormina Film Festival, Paxia (M5S) presents question about 70% cut in contributions
The Catanese MP of the 5 Stars Movement, Maria Laura Paxia, presented a question to clarify the 70% cut in ministerial contributions to the Taormina Film Festival.
"The organizers of the Taormina Film Festival - Paxia says - have highlighted in these days the inexplicable cut of 70% of ministerial contributions, compared to those obtained last year. Precisely to shed light on the reasons and causes that have determined this important cut - 50 thousand euros paid out in 2020 compared to 160 thousand in 2019 - I presented a question to the Minister for Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism, Dario Franceschini".
Lino Chiechio, General Manager of Videobank, owner of the TFF trademark concession for the three-year period 2020-2022, has already submitted to the Ministry a request for access to the records and, waiting to receive an answer, the question involving one of the most important film festivals at national and international level also arrives in Parliament.
"Despite this year's critical issues due to the coronavirus emergency - Paxia specifies - the TaorminaFilmFest (now in its 66th edition), was one of the few events that took place regularly, with quite a few difficulties for the organizers who have developed a new format: Videobank has, in fact, organized two evenings in the presence of the Teatro Antico and has streamed the program on MYmovies, sharing with a much wider audience of film lovers, composed of the international web community, the rich program of films in competition.
"It is very puzzling - Paxia continues - the fact that, from a comparative analysis carried out by the organizers, among the various events that participated in the call Mibact 2020, it results that out of 82 festivals associated with AFIC (Association of Italian Film Festivals), 58 have received from Mibact the same contribution of 2019, 15 an increase and 9 a reduction. The Taormina Film Fest is the only one, among the 9 that have suffered a curtailment, to have suffered a 70% cut".
